Hoodies vs. Quarter-Zips
Social Media Trend
There is a noticeable increase in young people wearing quarter-zip pullovers. Social threads jokingly use the “hoodie vs. quarter-zip” meme as a reflection of a broader shift from streetwear to grown-up life. This has played out most visibly on TikTok, where a lighthearted video by creators Jason Gyamfi and Richard Minor went viral recently with a wave of posts about ditching Nike techwear and embracing the cleaner, more polished and even aspirational quarter-zips. This same conversation has been taking place on Reddit for years, and for good reason. Despite the tongue-in-cheek tone of these conversations, the trend is hard not to notice.
Quiet Confidence
In contrast to loud logos, quarter-zips display a quieter, stealth wealth. In 2026, we’ll continue to see more companies embracing the “quiet luxury” trend, moving to transition pieces and understated branding in the form taco tags, zipper pulls and tone-on-tone labels.
Presentation
Consider where you’re headed and how your outfit supports how you want to feel and be perceived. Hoodies and tech suits are worn for comfort, sport and athleisure while the versatile quarter-zip is a great piece for everything else. Add a few quarter zips to your rotation in classic colors like navy or cream. Pair with jeans or khakis when heading to class or out for the night. For an interview or a meeting, a quarter-zip over a collared shirt can effortlessly elevate your look.
